First Timers

Every acupuncture treatment begins with a conversation. We’ll discuss what brings you in, review your health history, and explore how you’re feeling in the present moment.

Next, I will observe your tongue and feel the pulse at your wrists—techniques that offer unique insights into your body’s internal state and guide your course of treatment.

Acupuncture follows. Using ultra-fine, sterile, single-use needles, I will place them at carefully chosen points on your body, allowing you to rest for at least 20 minutes. This gives your qi the time it needs to make a complete cycle through your entire body, ensuring the therapeutic signal is fully communicated.  I may adjust or add needles based on how your body is responding, refining the treatment to support your healing process.

If we decide to incorporate herbal medicine into your treatment, I will craft a personalized herbal formula tailored according to the insights gathered through our assessment. Herbs are available in various forms, from raw ingredients for decoction to convenient granules, capsules, and pills. Together, we will select the option that best suits your needs.

I only use herbs sourced from companies that uphold strict quality standards. They are produced without pesticides, fungicides, sulfites, or fumigation, and I prioritize organic and ethically harvested herbs whenever possible.

FAQs

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Acupuncture needles are extremely thin and typically cause little to no discomfort. You may feel a slight pinch upon insertion, but this sensation usually fades quickly. Some people experience a dull ache, pressure, tingling, or traveling sensation where the needles have been inserted.  Others simply feel relaxed. Many patients even fall asleep during treatment.  While it is normal to feel calm, relaxed, and grounded afterward, others report feeling somewhat energized.

Is Acupuncture Safe for Pregnancy?

Absolutely! In fact, it’s recommended!

Acupuncture is highly effective in relieving morning sickness & heartburn, improving sleep, and easing pain & discomfort during pregnancy. It can be used to stabilize and strengthen pregnancy, enhance blood flow to the uterus, and calm the nervous system.  Starting around week 36, Labor Prep Acupuncture is an excellent way to prepare the body for labor and delivery and has been proven to help shorten duration of labor and reduce medical interventions.

How Should I Prepare for My Treatment?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment. It's important to be well-hydrated and have a light meal or snack beforehand to prevent feeling dizzy, especially if this is your first treatment or if you have diabetes.  No fasting, please.

Will I See Results Right Away?

A good acupuncture treatment will continue to unfold over 3 days, and many patients notice improvements after their first treatment. However, chronic conditions typically require more time to address.

For most issues, I recommend 4-6 weekly sessions to achieve optimal results. Acupuncture works at the root level and requires a regular input to gain traction and generate momentum with your healing process.

Once your symptoms remain relieved for almost an entire week, it is helpful to spread out your sessions to every 2 and then 3 weeks.  This encourages your body to work with and secure your new pattern.  Once the issue is resolved, some patients continue monthly treatments for overall wellness and maintenance.

If you have a very acute condition, I may suggest two treatments per week to start with, and then spread your subsequent treatments out accordingly.
